At Nanyang Malaysian Restaurant, we take pride in serving Malaysian food to our Edinburgh customers. Malaysian cuisine reflects the influences of surrounding regions and the diversity of its population. Most of this influence comes from the Malay, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Javanese, and Sumatran cultures.
The restaurant serves traditional Malaysian dishes and street food. From the well-known Char Kway Teow, Chicken Satay and Rendang Beef to Kari Laksa and Hainanese Chicken Rice. Nanyang serves halal chicken and beef. We also offer Chinese Dim Sum every day for lunch.
Enjoy traditional Malaysian beverages, along with locally sourced beer, wine, spirits and cocktails.
My wife and I visited last night and were both very excited to try Malaysian food. When we arrived the very friendly staff showed us to a nice table and judging by the Malay diners already in the restaurant our expectations increased. We ordered the steam buns and roti canai to start. The roti and the satay/curry style sauce was to die for. The steam buns were nice, soft and tasty but very sweet, almost like a dessert.

Found this through TripAdvisor and wasn’t disappointed. Staff were very accommodating, and the food was superb. After spending nearly 2 years in Indonesia, the food was as good, if not better than the real thing. If you get a chance, give it a go!
“Authentic Malaysian Food”
I lived and worked in Malaysia for many years and love the food but have never found anywhere in the UK that can offer me anything near the authentic flavours until now. This place has all my favourite dishes on the menu and they tasted the same as in the local stalls and restaunts in Johor Bahru. The decor and ambience are pleasing and the staff efficient and friendly. Prices average for Edinburgh. I can’t wait for my next visit.
Am I the only one who dreams about discovering a secret room in my flat? That’s how it felt to find new Malaysian eatery, Nanyang.
We were staying at a hotel nearby and tried Nanyang on our first night of a three night stay in Edinburgh. Fabulous food and the staff made us so welcome we ate here all three evenings of our short break. We would certainly recommend the restaurant and it’s great choice of Malaysian Food. Loved the Curry Puffs and the shredded squid to start, the chicken/prawn dumplings were also delicious. Wouldn’t hesitate in going back if re-visiting the City. Thank you all at Nanyang…
“A delightful find”
We found this restaurant just down the road from our hotel. We ate there on our first night and enjoyed it so much we returned the following two nights. The staff are very friendly and attentive, especially Bill who showed interest in our day. The food is cooked to order and is very fresh. The portions are large and we struggled to finish. The Nasi Goreng with chicken was superb as was the beef in a clay pot my husband had. Would definitely go again if in Edinburgh and have no hesitation in recommending this establishment.
